Touring the Salkantay
The Salkantay trail is an ancient and remote alternative path to the Inca Trail, it has much more spectacular views and with different ecological levels we will walk between lagoons, impressive snow-capped mountains such as Salkantay and Humantay, crossing rivers and subtropical areas of abundant vegetation and fauna. This road is an excellent option for those who want to escape from the most congested routes and in a faster way, or for those who are looking for an alternative when the spaces of the traditional Inca Trail are occupied.
This impressive excursion passes under the magnificent Salkantay mountain (6,710 m / 22,014 ft), one of the highest and most impressive of the Peruvian Andes. Its first two days will be dominated by the impressive snow-capped mountains of Salkantay and Humantay, as it travels through the high Andean landscape. The third day will descend to the warm cloud forest, to reach Machu Picchu Pueblo on the fourth day. The impressive sacred citadel of the Incas Machu Picchu is visited during the last day of the program.
This excursion is an interesting alternative for those who have not found space on the route from the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The excursion to Salkantay was recently named by the National Geographic Adventure Travel magazine among the 25 best excursions in the world. The hike or trekking to Umantay (5 917 masl) and Salkantay (6 271 masl), Apu or sacred snow of the Incas, can be started in Mollepata, on the Apurímac River and finish in Chilca (km 76 of the railway line), on the Vilcanota river. From there you can take the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Excursion to Choquequirao
The Choquequirao tour is one of the most beautiful and complex. It is a trip of 5 to 6 days, you will make really unforgettable walks and you will enjoy all the views of the place.
The route begins in the town of Cachora, Apurímac (2 900 msnm). Through the route it is possible to appreciate the impressive landscapes of the Apurímac River (3,000 meters deep), until arriving at the archaeological complex of Choquequirao.
Trek to the Ausangate
The Ausangate mountain (6398) is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the region. It presents impressive landscapes, lagoons and camelids (vicuña, alpaca and llama). The Ausangate trek lasts around 5 days. The difficulty is moderate for complex.
Ausangate is the representative mountain of the Cusqueños Andes. It is located in the Vilcanota mountain range with large lagoons with a bright green / blue color. Walking the Ausangate mountain is an indescribable adventure, and it is impossible not to be impressed by the enormous beauty of eternal snow. The Ausangate route is one of the attractions of Cusco.
Every year, on the north side of the Ausangate, the festival of Quyllur Rit’i (Quechua: star snow) is celebrated before the feast of Corpus Christi, during which thousands of Quechua pilgrims go to the Lord of Quyllur Rit’i in the church from Sinakara.
In addition, in the snowy Ausangate is a geographical feature, also known as Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain by its name in English.
Inca Trail
The Inca Trail is the most sought after in Cusco. Permits are limited every year (around 200). It almost always fills up from March to September. The only way to carry out the route is to hire a tour operator or company.
Machu Picchu hike is 39 km of route. The longest road starts at Piscacucho (km 82) of the railway line towards Machu Picchu. It goes through different ecosystems, colossal archaeological sites and places rich in flora and fauna, until reaching the citadel of Machu Picchu.
On the Machu Picchu trek, the walker will find a network of carved granite settlements along the way (Huiñay Huayna, Puyupatamarca), immersed in natural settings.
As an ideal complement, the tourist will also find an exuberant nature, with unique landscapes, hundreds of species of orchids and multicolored birds.
