    Machu Picchu (in Quechua “Old Mountain”) is one of the 7 new wonders of the world located in Peru, in the Department of Cuzco, province of Urubamba; this ancient Andean village was built in the fifteenth century as a resting place and religious sanctuary.

    We will give you a guided walking tour of about 04 hours approx. by the center of the city, this will depend on your availability at the time you arrive in the city of Cuzco. This tour is usually in the afternoon.

    Day 1 of 3: Cuzco 11,155 ft (3400m) – Aguas Calientes 6,693 ft (2040m)

    Departure Time: 05:00am aprox.

    A day before the trek, be sure to make all the necessary preparations.
    Today you will be picked up at your accommodation very early in the morning between 5:00-6:00 am. Please be fully prepared with all your personal gear and have consumed your breakfast before boarding the train.
    Now, we will head out to board our train to Aguas Calientes for an average four-hour ride.
    Activity: This day we will take a guided tour of this emblematic city in the Urubamba River Valley in southeastern Peru.

    Day 2 of 3: Aguas Calientes 6,693 ft (2040m) – Machu Picchu 7,972 ft (2430m) – Cuzco 11,155 ft (3400m)

    Today is the big day, today we will meet one of the seven wonders of the world, so we get up very early to enjoy our breakfast and make a historic hike to the wonder of the world. Today we walk a stretch of 2.4 miles (4.9 miles round trip) with a steep slope (2,625 ft positive difference in altitude) of ziksageantes roads; so in just two hours we will finally be in Machu Pichu; here we will take a guided tour and then walk back down to the town of Aguas Calientes.
    We have lunch and then board our train back to the city of Cuzco, but this time the train will take us only to the town of Ollantaytambo, and then board our mobility for another two hours to reach the Imperial City of Cuzco and go to your hotel.

    Difficulty: Moderate ups and downs along eight kilometers in total.

    Day 3 of 3: Cuzco 11,155 ft (3400m) – Sacsayhuaman 11,483 ft (3500m) – Cuzco 11,155 ft (3400m)

    Between 8:00 we will start the walk from your hotel in the city of Cuzco; we will pass through the main square (main square of Cuzco) heading north with an uphill climb of about 300m of positive slope, in total there are about two kilometers of walking that at a leisurely pace can be done in an hour on average.
    Here we will have a guided visit where we can appreciate zigzagging walls of megalithic invoice, bases of towers, aqueducts, tunnels (chincanas), ceremonial temples, artificial lagoon, rodadero (Suchuna) and the esplanade where the festival of the sun “Inti Raymi” is currently staged, very close we will also visit the famous White Christ; After this, our transportation will be waiting for us to take us to the fortresses of Q’enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay, which is also a close part of the historic center of the city of Cuzco, after lunch we will visit the famous Qoricancha museum, the latter we will also do it walking.

    Travel Insurance

    It is a condition of booking with Made In Mountain that you have adequate valid travel insurance. It is your responsibility to take out adequate travel insurance and to ensure that you have read and understood all the terms and conditions of your travel insurance policy to ensure that you are covered for all activities you intend to undertake during the tour, including all optional activities. Your insurance policy should fully cover you for medical expenses and emergency repatriation to your home country.
    In case of medical emergencies, illness or injury your insurance should cover the entire duration of your vacation. If you are trekking at high altitude, make sure there is no upper altitude limit that may limit or exclude coverage for your trip.

    Maximum altitude

    In this adventure you reach up to 3700 meters above sea level (Sacsayhuaman), cold and tropical climate typical of the Peruvian Andes, in most of the day you can reach temperatures around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius on average.

    Altitude information

    This trip is at an altitude where there is a risk of being affected by acute mountain sickness (AMS), a common and generally harmless condition caused by reduced air pressure and lower oxygen concentration. While the itinerary has been specifically designed to allow your body to acclimatize gradually, the rate of onset and severity, as well as the altitude at which AMS develops, can vary greatly among individuals; being physically fit offers no special protection. If symptoms develop during your trip, you should report them to your Made In Mountain leader immediately.
    Travelers with heart or lung conditions, anemia, asthma, high blood pressure, or who are taking the birth control pill should seek advice from their primary care physician and specifically mention the maximum altitude the trip reaches (refer to the trip itinerary). Bring your travel notes to your medical appointment so that your physician has all the details of your trip.
    You should have adequate travel insurance for your trip. Make sure that your insurance policy covers you up to the maximum altitude indicated above.

    Important for travel to Cuzco City

    During the high season of visitors from April to October (Andean summer) our reservations sell out quickly, so we recommend that you book your vacation well in advance of your planned travel date, at least 5 to 6 months in advance when possible.

    About flight delays

    Made In Mountain does not currently include international flights from your home city in its itineraries, so it is very important that you schedule your arrival in Lima, Peru 1 or 2 days prior to the start of your tour to avoid delays with your itinerary.

    Vaccinations

    Due to the current COVID-19 situation, visa and vaccination requirements are subject to change and you should inquire before traveling.
    At present, in the current year 2022, the Peruvian Government requires to show the vaccination card for access to public places.
    In Peru, in addition to the COVID-19 vaccine, no other vaccines are mandatory, but we recommend protection against typhoid fever, tetanus, polio and hepatitis A. Consult your travel clinic for the latest advice on malaria, dengue fever and Zika virus. Take preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites, which include mosquito repellent, as well as long pants and long-sleeved shirts to cover up when necessary.

    To travel from the capital city of Lima to Cuzco (round trip) you must arrange your flights in advance, we suggest you arrive in the capital city of Lima one or two days prior to the start of your tour to avoid delays and inconveniences.

    Drinking water is provided. Tap water in Peru is not safe to drink; boiled and filtered drinking water is provided on the trek and elsewhere your leader will purchase large water containers so you can refill your bottle.

    If you have problems to book your lodging, flights from Lima to Cuzco, food, etc. or any additional service we can assist you, it is only important that you make your tour reservations well in advance. Cuzco is a city with very high demand for tourist services, the basic services are full almost all year round.

    What is Machu Picchu?

    Machu Picchu is one of the seven wonders of the world, it is an Inca citadel located high above 2430m in the Andes in Peru, on the Urubamba river valley, department of Cuzco.     What is Sacsayhuaman?

    Sacsayhuaman is an archaeological group located 02 kilometers north of the main square of the city of Cuzco.
    Saqsayhuaman etymologically means satiated falcon or marbled head. In this archaeological complex you can see megalithic zigzagging walls, bases of towers, aqueducts, tunnels (chincanas), ceremonial temples, artificial lagoon, rodadero (Suchuna) and the esplanade where the world famous festival of the sun “Inti Raymi” is currently staged.

    What services would be missing from my tour to take my mind off all primary expenses?

    You would have to include flights, lodging and meals in the cities of Lima and Cuzco, we do not include them in our tours for the following reasons:
    – Lodging: Each passenger has a different need.
    – Food: The food preferences of each passenger is different, so we prefer that you explore the flavors of your preference (we only provide food in the camps when trekking).
    – Flights: You can book the airline of your preference, we know that there are complete offers from your country of origin.
    If you wish to include any of these services in your tour you should contact our travel agents so that they can assist you and include it in your tour pack.

    Will someone pick me up at the airport when I land in Lima, Peru from my home country?

    No, our service starts from your hotel in the city of Cusco and the day you start your tour according to the schedule of the itinerary, from there, your tour leader will accompany you from end to end throughout your vacation until you return to your hotel of origin.
    While it is true that the tour leader accompaniment is exclusively for the tour itinerary, we also operate in the city of Lima, we are attentive to provide all the assistance and extra support you need, but keep in mind that expenses for extra care are not covered in this tour.

    How far is Machu Picchu and Sacsayhuaman from the capital of Peru, Lima?

    Both wonders are located in the city of Cuzco.
    Cuzco is located south of the capital of the department of Lima, capital of Peru. From Lima to Cuzco a commercial flight will take you in one hour, while if you go by bus you will arrive in approximately 24 hours.

    What is the best season to do this adventure?

    You can do this trekking any day of the year, however, the recommended season is between the months of April to October, this season is known as the “Andean Summer”, because there are no longer many weather impediments (rain, low temperatures, fog, etc.) to better enjoy the scenery.
    However, we all know how climate change has affected the behavior of the environment, so we cannot guarantee that an “Andean summer” will be one hundred percent perfect.
    We can only guarantee the best safety for you to enjoy a hike on any day of the year.

    What is the difficulty level of this walking tour?

    This walking tour is basic level, due to the distance and altitude (see technical sheet).
    However, we ask you to measure your abilities before taking this tour, as the slopes and altitude may cause difficulties if you are not used to similar hikes.

    How fit should I be to do this walk?

    Although it is true that this is a hike that we consider basic, we suggest that it should only be done by people in good physical condition and with previous experience in mountain trekking above 2000m, and remember that the city of Cuzco is above 3400 meters.

    Will I have internet access during the trip?

    During the trip in some specific places it is possible to have internet access because both places are widely crowded and telecommunications companies already provide broadband services, although not all the way, it is possible to get signal in most areas.

    I am from another country, do I need any special permission to participate in this trek?

    No, you do not need any special permission, except for your Visa or Passport, your personal identification document. We will take care of everything else.

    In addition to the payment of this tour, do I have to make additional payments along the way?

    With the registration of your tour you will not have to worry about any primary expenses (entrance tickets to the parks, mobility, guide, etc.); since we pick you up at your hotel in the city of Cusco, until we return you again, we take care of everything, transportation, lodging (with the exceptions mentioned in the summary table).
    Food in the city will have to be covered by you (we only provide food in the camps when trekking), secondary expenses such as souvenirs, handicrafts, alcoholic beverages, etc. will have to be covered by you.
    If you want additional services that are not included in this tour, then you must request it to our travel agents before hiring the tour.

    Will someone help me to get to Cuzco from Lima, how do I return to Lima from Cuzco?

    From the moment you hire our services we will assign you a specialized local tour leader who will accompany you throughout your vacation so that you will live an unforgettable experience without worries.
    We will accompany you from your hotel in the city of Cuzco (round trip).

    If I am tired will I be able to ride a horse?

    Made In Mountain is a travel agency exclusively for trekking lovers, this tour is designed for you to enjoy an unforgettable trek.
    Our itinerary is programmed so that you can reach each destination at the scheduled times and in the best conditions; we will walk at a moderate pace according to your capabilities, and if the group is large there will be an assistant(s) to accompany you.
    This tour is always close to the city, so in case of emergency we will always be close by.

    What happens if I get injured or get sick halfway and can no longer continue?

    If you suffer any physical injury during the journey of this adventure, our staff has the training and equipment necessary for first aid and to get you to safety.
    If you feel you can no longer continue at any point along the way, we have a plan to take you to the nearest town and bring you back to the city of Cuzco or Lima as needed.
    In both cases, for the reasons mentioned above, if you need to cut the road or cancel your itinerary to return to the city earlier than scheduled according to the itinerary, this will have an additional cost because it will require an unplanned extra mobilization and management.

    Will the hotel where I will sleep in Aguas Calientes be a personal room?

    No, the rooms can be shared between two to four people, but if you want a personal room for more privacy, then you will have to previously request availability; it will depend on the availability to grant it, otherwise it will have an additional cost; that is why it is important that you book your tour well in advance to be able to configure your trip in the best way to suit you.

    Can you provide more services that are not included in this tour?
